Dear MTSD Staff and Families,
To help ensure the safety of all students, families, staff, and visitors, we are implementing a new rule regarding bicycles, electric bicycles (e-bikes), electric motorcycles (e-motos), and electric scooters (e-scooters) on school and district grounds.
Effective immediately, all bicycles, e-bikes, e-motos, and e-scooters must be walked while on school property. Riders must dismount and walk their wheeled micro-mobility vehicles whenever they are on school grounds, including sidewalks, parking lots, pathways, and areas around school buildings.
Signs have now been installed throughout the district to communicate this change and clearly identify this new expectation. This change is intended to reduce the risk of accidents and create a safer environment for everyone.
Please review the following safety expectations with your children:
Dismount and walk: Bicycles E-bikes, e-motos, and e-scooters must be walked while on school grounds.
Be aware of others: Watch for pedestrians, especially younger students, and keep pathways clear.
Wear a helmet: Helmets should always be worn when riding, in accordance with applicable laws.
Ride responsibly: Follow traffic laws and posted safety signs when riding off school property.
Lead by example: All riders are expected to follow this new rule to help maintain a safe school environment.
We appreciate your cooperation and support as we implement this districtwide safety change. Working together, we can help ensure that our school grounds remain safe for all students, families, staff, and visitors.

Fire Prevention Week is underway! 🔥🚒 We were thrilled to host the Milton Fire Department today as they taught our students all about essential fire safety.
Students got an up-close look at real firefighting equipment, practiced "stop, drop, and roll," and learned the importance of planning a family meeting spot at home in case of an emergency.
A huge thank you to the Milton Fire Department for their continued partnership and dedication to keeping our students and community safe! ❤️🔥👏

Champlain North Merger Group 19
Greetings All MTSD Staff and Families
This memo serves as official notice that the Milton Town School District (MTSD) is participating in the newly formed Champlain North Merger Group 19. MTSD will be working alongside the Alburgh, Champlain Islands Unified Union, Colchester, and South Hero School Districts. Nick DeVita will serve as the MTSD district representative.
First Meeting Logistics
The meeting is hosted by the Colchester School District and is open to the public.
Date & Time: Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
In-Person Location: Colchester High School Library, 131 Laker Lane

Background & Purpose
These merger groups were established under Act 170 (The Education Transformation Act), enacted in June 2026. Facilitated by a neutral, trained third-party coordinator, each committee is tasked with conducting a feasibility analysis to explore potential merger options into a single, unified school district.

Merger Study - Question Follow Up
Why was there only a 3-day window to respond to this survey without adequate background information on the options and trade-offs?
Currently there is no context or background information to share other than what was stated in survey summary:
As part of ACT 170, the Education Transformation law, that went into effect this past June, the MTSD will soon be joining other SUs and SDs around the State to participate in Merger Study Committees. Each committee will include Board representation and be facilitated by a neutral, trained facilitator.
The task of each committee is to
Conduct a feasibility analysis for the members to merge into a larger, single School District.
Create a report to include a recommendation and By-laws for a proposed merger.
The merger committees will conduct the feasibility study which will include financial modeling - tax impact, expenses related to salaries and merging contracts…
The committee will determine the conditions or by-laws for any recommended merger - for example, they will determine if there will be school choice and if so, would it just be for high school aged students only or all students and would there be transportation…
The survey window was short because the Board recently received a deadline for affirming participation in their assigned merger group or requesting a change. They wanted your input before they met on Tuesday, September 22 to make a decision and comply with the Thursday, September 24 deadline.
