What is a School Counselor?

School counselors are certified/licensed educators who improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program.

School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. They uphold the ethical and professional standards of ASCA and promote the development of the school counseling program based on the following areas of the ASCA National Model: define, deliver, manage, and assess.

How to meet with the School Counselor

  • Self-Referral by Student
    Students may complete a request form or ask permission to come to the office.
  • Teacher Referral
  • Parent Referral
  • Administrative Referral
  • Peer Referral

School Counseling Curriculum

The elementary counseling program is designed to focus on improving school climate and increasing academic performance. School-wide programs focus on bullying prevention, kindness promotion, tolerance, and respect.

Grade level programs focus on career and college awareness, social skills, and peer relationships.

Small Groups

A counseling service provided for some, not all, students, based on the student’s needs. Groups are led by the counselor and include 4 to 6 students who share similar concerns or issues. This is a great way for students to learn new skills, practice new behaviors, and better understand how to deal with life’s problems. Groups meet weekly for 6 weeks during the school day.
